Montreal, August 20, 2024 – Jeanphilip, now a staple in Quebec City’s indie-rock scene, is set to release his new album Vérandas, an ambitious work blending North American electro-rock with melodic European influences. After captivating critics and audiences with his previous albums and more than 250 live performances, Jeanphilip embarks on the next chapter of his career.
Vérandas, slated for release on September 10, 2024, delves into contemporary themes with both intensity and sensitivity. The album’s rich sonic palette features sharp guitars and vibrant synthesizers, while delivering lyrics that reflect on modern society with clarity and poetic insight.
Determined to bring his compositions to the next level, Jeanphilip sought out collaborators from Quebec, the US and France. He worked with the extraordinary producer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Cargnello, French vocal coach Olivier Azzano (Benjamin Biolay, La Bestiole), Quebecois Americana guitar hero Benoit Villeneuve (Shampouing, Tire le coyote), indie-pop futurist Jon Cohen ((The Dears, Jon Cohen Experimental), blue-eyed soul singer Jasmine Bleile (Ladies of The Canyon), classy bassist Cédric Martel (Hubert Lenoir, Ariane Roy), funky drummer P-E Beaudoin (Hubert Lenoir, Lou-Adrianne Cassidy), big-hearted drummer Olivier Beaulieu (Karim Ouellet, Patrice Michaud)) and sought out creative contributions from Jean-François Bougie. Although primarily recorded in Thetford and mixed in Montreal, the album was mastered inMaine atGateway mastering studios by Adam Ayan (Paul McCartney, Lana Del Rey).
The first three singles from the album – « Ivresse, » « Bûcher dans le tas, » and « Les Amants” – released on March 27, May 22, and July 17 respectively, have already garnered significant critical interest. The first stands out for its incisive snapshots of social life, the second is an electrifying anthem of liberation against populist drift and the third a tale of tormented lovers.
Jeanphilip will kick off his Quebec tour alongside American folk icon Shawn Phillips, with performances scheduled at the Théâtre Capitole de Québec and Woodstock en Beauce festival.
